We opened up our studio space at 11 Green street in JP to the public, and walked around quite a bit ourselves. I picked up a few awesome pieces of photography and some watercolor, but my big score were some rare LP's that I snagged from a yard sale. We decked the place out with tee shirts and hats, photography by Dana Jack, custom carpentry by Brad Warren and of course, good wine and beer (not sure if we're allowed to do that, but whatever, its already over sooo...).
I would like to thank everyone that stopped by...you all made it that much better.
Looking into doing some other shows in a week or two. Will keep you all posted.
Cheers.

Back from the dead. Almost.
After taking the summer off to do god knows what, I am pleased to say that the J. Newbury blog will be back in action on a daily basis (for the most part...c'mon). We are going to make an effort to let you all know just what is happening with J. Newbury: Trade shows, Open Markets, New Designs, Contests, Fashion Shows, and of course...fun social events as well.
NEWS:
I am pleased to say that as of recently, J. Newbury has been involved in a collaboration with Urban Outfitters...

You can help support J. Newbury by hitting the "Like" icon...
J. Newbury will be returning to the SOWA Open Market the weekend after labor day. It should be an awesome time (It was last year). Come swing by the South End Open Markets for tee shirts, crafts, vintage clothing, local produce and tons of other awesome stuff. As always, look for the motorcycle, the well stocked cooler, and J. Newbury himself. (More details to follow)
It's a great way to celebrate the fading days of summer. I will be walking around myself browsing the awesome selection of vinyl and other retro goodies.
J. Newbury is in the process of teaming up with local talent agencies in hopes of putting on several events and shows for the upcoming fall season. Kind of in the works right now...but we'll keep you posted.
Most importantly, J. Newbury will have some brand new gear coming out for when the cooler weather rolls in. Tee shirts obviously, but also thinking waffle shirts and some fall and winter hats. If you have any ideas of suggestions, please message our fan page...We read and update these everyday.
-I hope that everyone had an awesome summer (I Know -I know, It's not over yet)
Let's drag it out and make it last.
Cheers,
J.

"Bourbon: 50 Rousing Recipes for a Classic American Spirit
Bourbon — we enjoy this manliest of drinks by the shot, over ice with a splash of water, or even straight from the bottle (sometimes). Bourbon: 50 Rousing Recipes for a Classic American Spirit ($11) goes beyond these borders with classic drink recipes, fruity concoctions, and party mixes that are sure to get you, your friends, family, and the neighbor's dog drunk. Penned by Fred Thompson — no, not that Fred Thompson — this is a must have for any bourbon lover."

I NEED THIS. I'M NOT SURE WHY....I JUST DO.
"the newest addition to the thodio arsenal, the A-BOX. straight from the army, an original ammobox with a design from the fifties. so good its still in use
the A-BOX is made of 1mm steel plate fortified from the inside with 6mm trespa and made as inert as possible with vibration dampening material to ensure a ridiculously good sound for piece of metal
added to that are the high quality insides of its luxurious brother, the iBox, for a crystal clear sound, even at high volumes. the A-BOX comes equipped with an integrated rechargeable battery like you would expect from such an outdoor ready product
the iPod/mp3 player can be connected on the outside of the A-BOX as well as the inside so you can listen to your tunes while running around with the A-BOX for example or just protecting your iPod from bullets and stuff
the A-BOX comes in 2 models: the light version with 2 x 25 watts rms amplifier and woven glass fiber speakers (carbon color) this model will cost 350 euros but because of it's introduction the price will be 250 euros (339.00$) temporarily. and the heavy version sporting 2 x 70 watts amplifiers and woven kevlar speakers (the yellow material used in bullet proof vests) this version will be selling for 475 euros normally, now for 350 euros (475.00$) intro price...."

We are right now living- in a very interesting time to be alive. People are wearing clothing inspired by the 1920's-30's...wearing hairstyles from the 1950's-60's...sneakers from the 1980's...and drinking pre-prohibition cocktails in the cities "coolest" bars...
Have we finally reached an era where we can appreciate how good we used to have it? Has this downward spiral of the dollar and the economy left us longing for glory days gone by? Or have we finally realized that it is not the clothing, cocktails or ever passing trends that define us....but it is after all the individuals whom we choose to spend these dwindling beer-soaked moments with. (?)
I sure hope it's the latter.
(as I twist off another top)
Yours truly,
-Peter J.

A) Not exactly...define attend...
Q) Is it wise to have Peter J. around college girls?
A) Obviously.

Sorry for trailing off last night, but what do you expect, our ferry ride from St. Tomas to Tortolla was incredible. We squeezed in between tiny islands in the warm wind. The sky is full of stars as light pollution is not an issue here. We found our way to Road town harbor via taxi cab and we finally met up with the rest of our crew. After finding the boat, we immediately made our way over to the poolside bar at road town harbor and ordered a few rounds of pain killers and conch fritters.
I woke this morning before dawn and jumped in the pool just in time to hear the roosters crow. I bought two bottles of water and tried to hydrate for the rest of the day. The clouds that were present at dawn quickly dispersed and for the first time since Puerto Rico it's really starting to get HOT. The harbor has sprung to life and everywhere people are reading their yatchs and sailboats. We have chart briefing in a few minutes and then we're off...
The bitter end. We arrived at the bitter end today after our first three hour sail. The bitter end is located on Virgin Gorda, and a small series of coves make up the outline of the yatch club with outlying towns and huts across the cove. Gas, provisions and bars are on shore. We played pool and darts in the cantina on shore.
Immediately upon waking the next morning, we stared with breakfast and beers...We seem to have a surplus of peanut butter, bagles and cream cheese....actual food is scarce. Three of us took one of the zodiacs over to Leverick Bay where we explored some of the larger pleasure boats. We got a few red stripes, drank half of them in the tiki huts outside the marina, and finished them on our ride back to the boat....After a quick lunch, Dan and I went windsurfing. the wind wasn't always cooperating but with a few beers down we had no complaints about surfing through the glassy blue water. Surf lasted for an hour and our buzz was starting to run low. We somehow met up with everyone else on shore and found a beach cabana at the far end of the town. there was a chair there for each of us...almost as if they were waiting there for us. Four of us went back to the boat feeling well rested and started with what some people may call an overly aggressive cocktail hour. We made gallon jugs of grog, and we were soon three sheets to the wind. While a few of us took a much need nap, the remainder of of crew went back on shore for what the thought would be a few harmless beers....
They soon found themselves however on a 70 foot viking drinking some rich couples Grey Goose. I'm not sure what happened exactly, but all I know is when they returned none of them were even coming close to making sense...
More to follow....

As some of you might not know, for the first time in my life, on a recent trip to the BVI's, I decided to keep a travel journal. As promised, I said I would transcribe the pages there from and share it with all (three or four) of our readers....
The hand writing got a little sloppy along the way, and certain pages are scrawled about with nothing but gibberish and rum stains, but I will do my best to translate word for word the indescribable joys of my adventure.
-Four a.m. wake up, still hungry from not getting around to eating dinner last night, but the beers I shared late night with Chuck seemed to tide me over. After a blur of take off, landing, and dunkin donuts, we hunker down in a Newark food court, surrounded by large scale plastic renditions of french fries and burgers. We have two hours to kill...then San Juan bound...
Newark to San Juan, San Juan to St. Tomas on a Twin engine Cessna (a plane roughly the size of a toyota corolla).
*side note* Everyone is excited, but also a bit nervous, more than anything I cannot wait to get into sun and crystal blue water. The entire crew should regroup at the ferry landing on St. Tomas if everything goes according to plan...There we will wait for our ferry over boat drinks.
-Not even at my destination and the wierdness has already started. On the flight from Newark, an old hippy lady sat next to me. What started as casual conversation turned into her reading my palm, telling me my fortune, and giving me a spirit drawing. She then presented it to me and analyzed it. Bizzare. I have it with me now in my pack.
-Seeing Puerto Rico on the horizon was the most welcome sight I've seen in months.
-Upon our arrival at the airport, i immediately purchased two bottles of rum and sought out a small cafe to wait for our connection. The cafe is having a bit of a happy hour and after a slight miscommunication I recalled what little Spanish I could and got us two caiperenias(sp?) and two beers for six bucks. We may be here a while. After getting a solid buzz going, we stumble down to our "gate" with only the packs on our backs and two bottles of Bacardi. The gate is nothing more than a small waiting area, and the woman behind the desk hands us two hand written tickets and essentially tells chuck and I that we can just get on whatever plane, whenever. Since Chuck and I total about 400 pounds with our luggage, we had to wait for a plane without many people as they have to balance the weight out. We finally were called, stepped out onto the tarmac and into our Cessna. The plane was no bigger inside than an SUV, and we flew only a few hundred feet over the breaking waves and reef bars all the way to St. Thomas.
-I've arrived! I am sitting at the ferry bar in St. Tomas with an ice cold Carib. Chuck and I eagerly await the rest of the crew. They should be here shortly.
-The crew is assembled with the exception of two that are already at the boat. The other six of us find a cantina not far from the ferry landing and trade off buying rounds of beers. The table we are sitting at is split in the middle where a giant palm grows through it. Our ferry tonight will take us to road town harbor where our boat is docked. We sit around the table drinking and smoking cigars. Tomorrow we will have to provision and collect thing like water and food. My mind is trailing off right now....probably becasue I am sitting here in shorts and flip flops drinking and ice cold presidente...more tomorrow.....

I'm back...
Hello out there. I'm Back.
As many of you may have read (assuming that anyone actually reads this garbage) I have just returned from a sailing trip around the BVI's...
Trying to explain to someone what this trip was like would be an exercise in futility, but non the less, I plan to have a full recap (including photo's and excerpts from the ships log and my personal journal) in the days to follow.
In the meantime, I will be trying to regain my land legs...and desperately attempting to preserve my perpetually fading tan.
Stay tuned...More to follow...

Thanks for telling us all about how much you loved Ava-tard. At this point I truly feel like I am the only person on the face of the earth (excluding Afghanistan and certain remote areas of the Congo) that has not yet embarked on the cinematic adventure known as Avatar. I'm sure I'll get to it sooner or later. Now, lets get down to brass tax here...I'm sure most of you are no stranger to the term, the statement, and worst of all- the feeling: "What the hell happened last night?" I wish I could tell you, I really do. I However, was a little too busy cutting up the dance floor like a slap-chop on speed. Should we rewind? (cue tape rewind noises)
Last night the J. Newbury team found themselves cozied up in private VIP area of the Gypsy bar in the company of a few young ladies, good friends, and a lot of Grey Goose (horrible cliche I know...). The night was fused together with cocktails, dancing, laughing and more fist pumping than the Jersey Shore, all the while slowly falling apart at the welds. The night reached it's apex (the zing, in amazing if you will) when a certain hilarious member of our entourage put an obnoxious bar patron in his place with a few choice words and a well aimed fist (J. Newbury does not condone violence...except in movies...and after 2am).
After much hazy reminiscence, I must admit that the only conclusion I can halfway reach is: Let's do it again tonight. Its Saturday people...we've all earned it. Lets be safe, be merry, and may we all find ourselves in good "spirits" and good company for the remainder of the weekend.until next time... I'll be sitting here drinking an ice cold "Dale's Pale Ale" fresh out of the can. Life is good today.
(J. Newbury LLC is in no way, shape or form affiliated with Dales Pale Ale...but we really wish we were! Dale, if you are reading this...send us some shwag dude!)
Play list for today:
Sweet Jane- Velvet Underground
And it Stoned Me- Van Morrison
Big Black Bird- Blitzen Trapper
Everybody knows this is Nowhere- Neil Young

Picture of the Day
There are two things you should never, ever do.
1) Key a car…just don’t do it…ever.
2) Never wear a tee shirt with any kind of bedazzling (This rule can be broken for two reasons: If you are attending a theme party, or if your nickname is “The Situation”).
What the hell happened to Green Day (?)…Did they collectively get neutered after the
late 90's?
Once and for all…Who let the dogs out?
Bench presses strike me as being one of the most overrated, impractical exercises that one can do at the gymnasium…However, due to the fact that someday I will probably have to save my friends from a giant falling boulder while escaping a booby-trap ridden cave…I work them into my routine.

It’s shaping up to be another fantastic day here in Boston. A chimpanzee could do my job, and the majority of the people I will interact with today have to personality of a cadaver…but…the sun is out. C’mon, that has to count for something. Seeing as my ADD could kick in at any moment and cause me to spill into a river of nonsensical ranting, I’ll begin today’s entry with something productive (if only to get it out of the way).
J. Newbury will begin the release of its new line for spring/summer in the next few months. We hope to have a minimum of six new pieces, as well as the return of a few old favorites in different washes and color options. This collection is inspired by the timeless treasures of surf and sand, and will pay homage to the over romanticized Hollywood ideals that we all fall into the minute the weather begins to improve. Keep an eye out, and I’ll be sure to upload several super-secret spy photos in the days and weeks to follow. Until next time, if you have color preferences…shirt ideas…drop me a line…I’d be happy to steal them.
Now, If you’ll excuse me, I have a train to catch.

Welcome to J. Newbury....
It could be worse I suppose. I sit here writing to you now, officially becoming a part of the blogging universe. Blog…the very word used to piss me off. To tell you the truth, it still does. But hey, isn’t that what life’s all about. This is after all America, the land of golden opportunity. The land where four morons piled into a shopping cart can crash into a parked car and make millions with hundreds of thousands (if not more) internet hits. Yes- the internet…the world wide web I mean, not the thing on the inside of your bathing suit…
However, I suppose we all must evolve. Maybe this is me accepting the fact that the world as we know it is changing. More likely however, this was recommended to me by my therapist as a way for me to bitch and complain enough to avoid another anxiety attack. I guess we’ll never know.
Let’s get down to brass tax here. My good friend and I started this small Boston based clothing company. This poor excuse for a pile of prose is how we’re going to tell you about it. You don’t have to read it…we’d like you too…it can’t hurt my ever-dwindling self esteem. We’re both going to contribute, mainly because neither one of use fully trusts the other one. Ultimately I’d like to raise a digital glass too the good life.
What is J. Newbury you ask? J. Newbury was founded when two Boston guys met while working at a bar in the Back Bay. It was founded on the belief that life was better before cell phones and a constant barrage of emails. We strongly believe that everything should be done proudly with care and craftsmanship. We celebrate a timeless American style with modern responsibilities towards limiting waste and increasing eco-friendly behavior. Above all however, we like to have a good time.
Cheers,
J. Newbury
